Monday 31st March
So, the decision is out of my hands, the two are coming off. The biopsy shows that the lump in my other boob is also a cancer but a different type.
Surgery will take place on Tuesday 8th, so I have another week to wait.
The cancer is not hormone receptive and is purely down to genetics. I think that's what the consultant said anyway. I will therefore be having a genetics test and there was mention of checking my ovaries. This kinda contradicts itself as I think about it. I'd better ask again.
When I asked if the next stage of treatment will be determined after the lymph node biopsy she said "yes, but I would put money on you having chemo." I kinda knew this anyway. Blimey, I've gone from a wide local excision with radiotherapy to a bilateral mastectomy and chemo within three weeks!! Madness!!
Preparing to be ill is a strange concept. I feel absolutely fine at the moment but I know I'm going to be very poorly once chemo kicks in. Bummer.
All those years of never being happy with my body, all those diets, all that exercise. Always wanting to be thinner, firmer, more attractive. Yet here I am wishing that I could keep the body I've got, just the way it is. Let this be a lesson to us girls!!

ReplyDeleteI'm very sorry to hear you will be needing a bilateral mastectomy and chemo :(
ReplyDeleteBut I do agree to what you said earlier, getting the both off is best, then you can have a fresh start for them both.
