| First BBQ of the year..... |
I saw the Consultant, a different one this time as mine is on leave. She bombarded me with information. My head is spinning.
The left boob has got to come off due to three areas of cancer. Fair enough. As for the other one, well........
If the lump is benign it can be left alone. A benign lump is unlikely to turn into cancer apparently. If it is cancerous, that boob might as well come off too.

So, I will get the results on Monday. However I get the impression that I can request that they both come off regardless of the results. At first I felt that the Consultant was trying to persuade me to leave the other boob alone if the other lump is benign, but when I said "I think they should both come off because when I have reconstruction they will both look the same" she smiled in agreement, I think.
| Want one!!!!!! |
The Consultant said that many women who choose to remove the "healthy" breast regret it later. I went in knowing exactly what I wanted and came out undecided. However the more I think about it the more I lean towards having them both off. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
If I have one boob off I can have the op next Tuesday, the 1st April. If I have both it will be Tuesday 8th.
The lymph node biopsy will take place at the same time as the op. This will determine what the next stage of treatment will be, so that's another waiting game.
I'm exhausted.
I was given the consent form to read over the weekend. The Consultant wrote down the plan (which may change on Monday) and the risks. One of the risks is that the dye they put in me might turn me blue for 24 hours or so, how mad is that. Kim the flat chested Smurf!! Bizarre!!

It's easy for me to say, but I would want them off for the same reason you gave, to ensure all the cancer had gone and so the reconstruction would be the same.
ReplyDeleteObviously it's your decision and you need to think carefully. You've got the weekend so speak to as many (or as few) people as you need to.
Also decide who is going with you on Monday. I will come although, I may need to bring four kids with me too (but we could leave them in the car! With the window open obviously!!)

Hi kim sorry you're going through this, but my advice on this matter would be to take two off...not that im any expert, angelina jolie had both off, and look at her now!! :) :)
