Wednesday 23rd April
Just thought I would let you know that I'm home and feeling fine.
I saw the anaesthetist (who was the spit of the actor Bill Nighy!!) prior to surgery and told him what a terrible time I had after the surgery the other week. He agreed to use a different cocktail of anaesthetic, pump me full of anti sickness stuff and try to avoid opiates. He said "you are brave to come in as a day case", I told him that I could not believe that I would be walking out of hospital on the same day considering how I was last time round. He said "I think its highly unlikely you will be, I think you'll be in over night" Tut!
Had a little cry in in the anaesthetic room as they were preparing me for surgery. It was a long time coming to be honest. I felt a bit overwhelmed I think.
I woke up in the recovery room and started to shake violently, not sure why. The shaking continued on the ward. The anaesthetist came to check me and demanded that the nurse give me Pethidine. She said "we don't have any", he said "well get some" God! I asked if it would make me sick and hallucinate. As the anaesthetist walked away the nurse said "I'd avoid Pethidine if I were you". I didn't have any and the shaking soon calmed down.
The anaesthetist noticed that I had a droopy eyelid, nice. This was caused by the local anaesthetic he had put in my neck and shoulder. He said it would be back to normal by today, thank god, not a good look. The eye has returned to normal. I also woke up with bigger boobs!! The consultant pumped them up a bit while I was under. I defo have a bit of a cleavage now. I think I've actually got bigger boobs than some of my friends (I won't name names but you know who you are)
I was up and dressed and devouring two sandwiches back to back within about two hours. I couldn't believe it!!! It took me two days to get out of bed last time around!! I was so happy, I was actually going home!!!
I left the hospital at about 8.30pm with my droopy eyelid and bigger boobs. I was a bit spaced out but didn't feel too bad considering. I slept through the night, woke up very stiff, took some more pain killers and went back of to the land of nod for a few hours. I feel amazing compared to how I did after the Mastectomy. I'm so thankful.
I go back for the full results next Wednesday which will probably be the scariest appointment yet. Chemo should start about a week later. I still feel "well" though, so that's a good sign.
