Monday 14th April
I'm back!!! Sorry if I scared any of you but this is the first time I've been able to summon any energy to write this.
The op took place on Tuesday as planned. I felt fine going in. The anaesthetist gave me some lovely drugs which made me feel drunk, so that he could put cannulas' in my back to administer local anaesthetic. The last thing I remember was them saying that the cannulas' were in and lying me down. I'm gutted because I was looking forward to the "count to ten" like they do on Holby City. Apparently I got to number two but have no recollection.
I was eventually discharged on Saturday afternoon. I had a rough time in hospital, I won't go into too much detail but it appears that anaesthetic, morphine and codeine do not agree with me. Some people cannot tolerate opiate based drugs and it seems that I'm one of them.
I was told that I would be in for two nights max. I asked a nurse if I had been told this so not to scare me, but apparently most women are out within one or two days. I was just unlucky that I had a rough time. I also lost quite a bit of blood so my energy levels are very low. Got some iron tablets to sort that though.
The best way to describe what I'm feeling right now is that I've been in a car crash and the steering wheel is still stuck in my chest. I'm not so much in pain any more but I'm uncomfortable. I'd give my right arm (or boob, oh I already have!!) to be able to sleep on my side. My back isn't used to the pressure. I kept asking the nurses what time the masseuse was going to arrive but they just laughed!! It was a serious question!!
I'm home now and very slowly feeling better every day. I can't do much for myself, my poor sister is running around fetching and carrying for me. Had my first bath this morning since going into hospital, I was fine getting in but then realised I couldn't get out. A pure comedy moment. Good job I've got strong legs otherwise I'd still be in there.
I've been looking through the texts received and sent during my time in hospital. I can't remember receiving or sending most of them, I was so off my nut on drugs. Thanks to everyone for the lovely messages. I also arrived home to some lovely gifts and cards, some of which I received in hospital but again I don't remember, so was a nice surprise when I got home.
Next is my results and the plan of action with regards to chemo and so on. I'm trying not to think to much about this as I need to concentrate on getting my energy levels back up.
I'm off now, back to my box sets.
Ta ta for now xxx
Welcome home my lovely <3 So glad to hear you are feeling well enough to blog. I have been thinking about you every day, and I know everyone else has too. Even my mum is asking about you! I think she might want to adopt you ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou are doing amazingly well and I'm so proud of you.
Enjoy being spoilt and let me know if there is anything at all that you need.
Much love & hugs

Hi AKim, (You are AKIM as Mad has you on the top of her phone contacts list.)
ReplyDeleteSpecial agent Mad 'Mood' Phillips has passed on your blog and it is brill! I particularly like the references to being off your nut on drugs. It is quality reading and keep fighting against the steering wheel - better or worse than the handlebars on my bike?
Keep on keeping on from the Top Banana Eleanor x
Hey Kim
ReplyDeleteBeen meaning to post a message for ages. Keep trying to think of something wonderful and witty to write but I'm no bloody good at that stuff. All we really want to say is that we love you very much. You have been amazingly strong so far, and although I bet you're feeling super shit right now, dig deep and keep on fighting. You're a star. Lots of Love. Bethx Ashx Sonnyx and Olivex
