A Cancer Free Christmas

I'm not usually a fan of Christmas but this one was quite special, with me being alive and all that. I was quite giddy about the whole thing this year. I was reminded that I spent most of last Christmas Day snoozing. This made me realise that I was ill last Christmas, but I didn't know it at the time hey.

This Christmas has been very chilled out, no mad parties or anything, I'm not quite ready for all that. Had a very quiet New Years Eve, I decided not to have a drink as I wanted to wake up on New Years Day feeling as healthy as possible.
I remember saying that 2013 was going to be MY year, it turned out to be horrible. So, I decided that 2014 was going to be MY year, a few months in and I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I'm not going to say it again.

2014 has certainly been eventful. I can't quite believe how much has happened.

As for 2015, well ..........I plan to enjoy it, grab every opportunity and make some great memories. I do feel quite giddy about life now, I wondered when that was going to kick in. I remember one woman who had come through Breast Cancer told me to "never stop celebrating". These words have really stuck with me, I think I will make them my motto.

One major change I have made is that I've decided not to return to my job. I've managed to bag myself voluntary redundancy. I will miss my colleagues and my lovely boss but it isn't the job for me, not any more. I'm a different person now, inside and out. A Breast Cancer diagnosis really does change your perspective and I suppose it has given me the kick up the arse I needed to try something new. I have been learning some new skills while I've been ill and plan to use them in the future. I might end up with my own business, you never know.

In other news, I've had my hair cut!! It actually looks like I've done it on purpose now, I no longer look like I've lost my hair because of chemo. Its a great colour too, darker than my original hair. My eyelashes are starting to come through, not enough to wear mascara but they are trying bless them. My eyebrows are being very lazy though, hope they remember to come back. I still look like an alien when I haven't got my make-up on. I can't wait for the day when I don't have to wear so much to look human.

My cancer story is not quite over yet. I will be having the test for the BRACA 1 & 2 mutations next week. I will get the results of this test in about 10 weeks. If I test positive that will mean I will be having other body parts whipped out/chopped off. Nightmare. Part of me hopes that I do have the mutation because that will give me a reason for my cancer, but at the same time I don't really want any more surgery. What will be will be.

I haven't reminded you to check your boobs for a while have I? If it can happen to me it can happen to you. You must check and check regularly. Do it, a quick check every month could save your life.

Happy New Year!!! x
