Kim Does Spain

Saturday 13th December

My lovely friend Fiona moved to Spain a few months ago, so I decided to have a little recuperation holiday over there. A well deserved break.

Before I tell you how that went I want to start with the night before I left. I booked tickets to go to a gig in Liverpool. In hindsight this was a silly idea but I keep double/triple booking my time due to chemo brain which is still in full force. I'm so glad I went to the gig though, it was brilliant. I danced my bloody socks off!! I felt so elated to be doing something normal, my friends kept asking me if I needed to sit down which I probably did, but I was so excited to be out, at a gig, dancing, being normal, feeling alive that I just pushed on through. A bloody brilliant night. I plan to do a lot more of that now I'm well again.

So Spain........I am very lucky to have some friends who live in some lovely places and so I now have Spain to add to my list. Doing stuff like going to a gig, getting a flight on your own and landing in a different country seem so much more exciting when you have had a life threatening illness.

Spain was lovely, it was really warm and sunny!! It was nice to get some sun on my bones as I spent the latter half of summer hiding indoors and avoiding the sun due to chemo. We spent some time on a couple of beaches which were completely deserted due to the time of year. (Apparently the Spanish think that 20 degrees is too cold for the beach!!). I also spent a lot of time sitting by the pool, soaking up the chilled out atmosphere, bliss.

There is a lot of land around the villa so I had a go on the quad bike, me on a quad bike!! Something I would normally shy away from, in case a hurt myself/broke a nail and so on. Nothing really seems scary anymore. I've done scared, it doesn't get any scarier than cancer.

Thanks to Fiona for such a lovely week, the relaxation was just what I needed. I'm already planning my next trip, grabbing life by the balls and all that.
